So, I quit my high-stress, you're-young-and-have-ovaries-you-must-know-nothing job about a month ago. It sucked, because I finally made the money I'd wanted to make, but it also ruled hardcore, because I got to listen to my supervisors begging me not to leave (after I'd given two months notice!--god, I hate them). Then I was unemployed (a good time to finish one's Merry Smutmas fic--who knew?). It's very hard to find a new job when you don't know what the heck you want to do with your life.

Tomorrow, I start out scheduling blood donor appointments for the Red Cross.

Am feeling very zen about it.

Change is good. Being employed is even better.

I hope the new job is less stressful (to make up for the pause, or drop, in finances).

Me, too. :) They said it would be, because it's all from a previous-donors database (and how mad can you really get at the lady calling from the Red Cross? ...Though someone might prove me wrong). It's not that huge a drop, actually. Just means I can't blow everything on DVDs and big dinners. (Curses!)

Where do I sign up to be a highly-paid novelist? I can't find the listing...

I almost added, above, that I hope the new gig means more mental space, or time, to write. I do!

Thanks! Me, too!

I'm working out a novel, finally. I've tried before, but this time I really feel like I can do it. It's really *work*, though, whereas fic is just fun. I don't know what I'd do without this crazy hobby.

I just took a two month, unplanned, break from writing. Hurricane Rita was very distracting, which urged me to wrap up tasks brought to my attention by evacuating.

But now I have to go back to my novel. Bits of the setting crop up in my dreams and I'm constantly devising dialogue in my head. Like you say, I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't writing something.

Ooh, what are you working on? (I'm assuming sci-fi/fantasy related, but I'm biased that way.)

Thanks! I went for the introductory training, and it went great (I saw my evaluation on a desk as I went to leave--it had all the little 'yes' boxes ticked.) :)

Thank you! *Hugs* Training went well, and sounds interesting. Plus, apparently people don't treat the Red Cross like they do other inbound/outbound call people.

Good luck with the new job. One thing about the Red Cross is you should be able to get cross-training, and even if you don't want to advance into the medical field, you'll learn new and useful skills. :)

Might be fun to jab people in the arm all day with needles. :) Otherwise, I don't think I'm cut out to be a nurse. But I might make one hell of a records tech. We'll see. Thanks!

Odd, for a moment I thought I was reading about my own life...

1. Quit stable job after supervisors begged you to stay. Check.
2. Unemployment assists in fandom obsession. Check.
3. Lack of direction and career ambitions. Check
4. Working at a blood bank in the mean time. Check.

Freaky.

I hope your job goes well, though. Good luck!

*preens in mirror* Hello, me!

How much well-paying jobs suck seem to be a function of how long you've been away from one. Suddenly when you don't have one, you can't seem to remember all the reasons why you quit the other one. :) The blood bank is good though. A little more high intensity than I would have thought, but good.

Ok so a few of your fanatical..er..I mean devoted readers have a guess as to which story is yours, would it be possible to get a confirmation on that? Maybe via email? Enquiring minds want to know :)

And a novel? *SQUEE*

Nope. Not saying a word. Nuh-uh.

For all you people know, I wrote Greyback/Slughorn non-con that hasn't been posted yet. :)

*Whispers* Anyhow, I'm really not at liberty to say. I hear Gina calls down the smutmas mafia when someone blabs.

(Thanks about the job, though!)

You want to know what the sad thing is? If you wrote it I'd read it. And I bet I'd enjoy it too. :)

BTW, this will sound really odd, but I was inspired to put together an "Undeclared" mix for "A Soft Place to Sleep", would you be interested in a copy? It came out pretty well if I do say so myself.

If you don't get an email with the address, try:
http://www.dropload.com/redeem.php?t=16bd70b0eef421441aa125d7afa0bc35

You'll need 7-Zip to open it, that's available:
http://www.7-zip.org/

If you have any problems just let me know.

I've got 7-zip and downloaded the file, but whenever I extract it, it comes out as 1 MB files. Hmm. I'm not sure if I'm not doing it right or whathaveyou. You could try resending, or...? (Sorry!)

Hmmm, have you tried burning the lot to cd? If that doesn't work email me seperately and I'll figure out another way to get them to you. Maybe I can try converting them from cda files to mp3s...

I totally missed this post when you made it, but...see what you can do about changing the Red Cross's rules about donations from people who lived in England during the '80's.

Mad Cow Disease indeed.
