The Remake of 'The Wicker Man.'
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450345/

No. No, no, no, no, no.

No, no, F!@#ing NO! You bastards! You absolute--NEIL LABUTE? WHAT? EXCUSE ME? GO WRITE SOMETHING HATEFUL DISGUISED AS PROVOCATIVE AND LEAVE THIS ALONE! Do you think you're edgy? Nicholas Cage? WHAT?!?

...Sorry. LaBute's credited as the writer on it, too. Yeah. He's re-writing 'The Wicker Man.'

Heya, Neil? I was indifferent before, buddy, but now? You're on my list. *Pencils in.* This is horrible. May visions of Christopher Lee haunt you until you repent.

Grr. *Seethes*

That's kind of how I felt when they remade "The Manchurian Candidate". Are we all really such neanderthals that we can't be expected to relate to a film more than thirty years old? Or is it just that nobody's writing good original scripts these days and the film industry is resorting to cannibalism?

I don't think it's a lack of good, original scripts. (That's what my gut tells me, but it's been a bad, bad year for movies, with only a couple of exceptions.) I do think that, as an industry, it's pretty much abandoned any illusion of honor.

At least the Manchurian Candidate remake (while devoid of all charm) had some decent people behind it. The American remake of 'The Wicker Man' just seems so ill-conceived. I hope both will be forgotten quickly, in favor of the originals. (They're on their way.)

Next up will be Jessica Alba and Tara Reid in 'The Children's Hour.' Maybe followed by Cameron Diaz in 'Sunset Boulevard', and Chris Klein's 'On the Waterfront.' Ugh. *Stabbitystabbity*

Huh...I was just thinking yesterday that I'd love to see the Wicker Man movie again. I remember how difficult it was from a time to see that film (something about Rod Stewart being upset that his then-girlfriend had a nude scene in the film).

When I finally saw it, I was shocked. I'd really only heard of it in passing, then saw the DVD for rent, took it home, and couldn't believe how very--different--the whole film was. Music, paganism, Christopher Lee, and an incredible amount of nudity. (If I'd been dating Brit Ekland (sp?), I'd understand.)

A dollar says the new version has no singing. And that Nicholas Cage's character isn't a virgin.

Heheheh. Yeah, Wicker Man (1973) IS a pretty "decadent" film. Movies in the 1970s tended to be a LOT more interesting (and sexually mature) than the types of films made nowadays. Look at what the '70s brought us! Films like Rocky Horror, American Cowboy, Clockwork Orange, Last Tango in Paris, The Graduate, The Devils, The Last Picture Show, Harold and Maude. All great films!

And Rod Stewart was a jerk. After all, Britt Ekland had built her entire career around her body. Who was Rod to say that was bad? She broke up with him after just a few year though. ;)

Don't even say Harold and Maude, or I'll have to dig through my music library and listen to 'Don't Be Shy' and 'If you want to sing out, sing out' for hours on a loop. I had a serious love affair with that film. I know it had to end the way it did, but it broke me.

Rod Stewart's hair makes him a jerk. Just the hair alone.

I know! I know, I know, I know! *Bangs head on desk* Geez. At least we can hope some of the bored and curious will mistakenly rent the original and go, 'Whoa! Naked lady! Hey! There's Saruman! Oh, go on, leave it on.'
